Treatment involves carefully injecting a sclerosing solution into the targeted vein. This causes the treated vessel to close, after which it is gradually broken down by the body and becomes less visible over time. Results develop gradually rather than immediately. Treated veins may begin to fade over the following weeks, although the full improvement can take longer and more than one treatment session may be required depending on the number, size and extent of the veins being treated. A consultation and assessment are required before treatment to establish suitability and discuss the expected outcome, potential risks, aftercare and whether further medical assessment may be appropriate.
